HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
As a Senior Associate, Energy and Air Quality, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and its Technical Development team. The Technical Development team is seeking a skilled professional to expand our technical capabilities and contribute to two critical topic areas: energy and carbon and indoor environmental quality. In this role, you will assume ownership of pertinent committee operations and help guide the ongoing evolution, refinement, and optimization of USGBC products—including LEED—to ensure they remain rigorous, relevant, and aligned with USGBC’s mission and strategic objectives.

You’ll report to the Director of Energy and Carbon and be part of a highly collaborative matrixed team environment where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes through USGBC products and thought leadership. You’ll work closely with Technical Development colleagues and other teams like Education, Innovation and Research, and Product Management and may regularly partner with Technical Customer Service or Certification to resolve questions regarding the interpretation of rating system language in relevant topic areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of strategic goals for energy and carbon and indoor environmental quality for LEED and other USGBC/GBCI products in key technical areas in such as:
  • Energy benchmarking, building performance standards, and decarbonization.
  • Indoor air quality (ventilation, filtration, monitoring, etc.).
  • High-performance design analysis and practices.
• Identify and help understand the implications of new and developing industry issues, trends, scientific research, publications, technologies, regulatory requirements, and standards with a focus on the nexus between energy and air quality.
• Facilitate technical conversations, conduct research, and build consensus on technical solutions that enhance the usability, implementation, and impact of USGBC/GBCI products worldwide.
• Aid in the development and optimization of technical tools and resources, such as rating system guidance, addenda, sample forms, and adaptions to existing rating systems that support specific project types, regions, and innovative approaches.
• Cultivate engagement with global external subject matter experts focused on the built environment.
• Support the vision for volunteerism at USGBC by leading committee operations for at least two LEED Technical Advisory Groups (Energy and Atmosphere and Indoor Environmental Quality), including document development, agenda drafting, meeting coordination and facilitation, note taking, and acting as staff point of contact for volunteer industry professionals.
• Support in public speaking engagements and create technical content presentations, effectively communicating technical information on energy and environmental quality to diverse audiences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• At least 2–5 years of relevant technical experience in engineering or energy management
• General knowledge of ASHRAE standards, especially 90.1 and 62.1
• Robust exposure to and familiarity with building energy management and high-performance building systems, including HVAC, and their interactions
• General knowledge of LEED rating systems
• Experience with LEED-certified projects preferred
• Combination of US and relevant international experience a plus

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field required

• Understanding of and ability to contribute to high-performance building design processes, with a focus on energy and air quality aspects and the interaction among building systems
• Familiarity with building decarbonization approaches, such as building electrification measures, carbon assessments/projections, and strategic decarbonization planning

Existing Buildings Associate

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As an Existing Buildings Associate, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of USGBC. In this role, you’ll take ownership of optimizing the utilization of all technical products servicing existing buildings, driving key initiatives such as project timelines and deliverables, product promotion, research and improving the user experience of our existing buildings products in alignment with our mission and strategic goals.

You’ll report to the Senior Director, Existing Buildings and be part of a collaborative team environment where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes. You’ll work closely with teams like Product Management, Project Management, Certification and Marketing and Communications.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with establishing the strategy for optimizing utilization of all technical products servicing existing assets – both as independent products and in coordination across products.
• Support implementation of customer communications that explain and promote technical products serving existing assets, ensuring messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with product intent and technical requirements.
• Research and benchmark comparable programs, offerings, and educational content from peer organizations, ensuring technical development and product strategy decisions are informed by external market signals and emerging approaches.
• Support the maintenance of existing LEED O+M technical products with periodic updates to credit language, guidance, and supporting materials, ensuring ongoing technical rigor, clarity, and consistency with program objectives.
• Provide general support for development of new versions of LEED O+M technical products.
• Assist in articulating the technical requirements of all technical products serving existing assets to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Assist in the development of educational content related to the technical application of requirements within technical products serving existing assets
• Collaborate with internal staff, volunteers, and subject-matter experts to develop/refine technical content and supporting resources, ensuring requirements are implementable and aligned with best practices
• Assist in development of internal SOPs to guide associates on the technical and tactical application of credit requirements, exceptions, and work around solutioning
• Support communication of updates, adjustments, and changes required with Arc to IT
• Provide general support including preparing committee memos, meeting agendas, and volunteer committee communications.
• Regularly review data collected on projects in Arc and provide insights on building performance and credit application for technical products serving existing assets
• Track work progress and communicate cross-functional needs (including Arc-related updates/adjustments) using tools such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and Smartsheet, ensuring clear handoffs, and on-time execution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• 2+ years of experience in the built environment, program coordination, project management, or standards/compliance environment
• Familiarity with USGBC products (LEED, TRUE) and certification processes

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the built environment, sustainability, environmental science/policy, operations or related field

Technology/System(s)

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office required
• Proficiency with Salesforce and Smartsheet preferred but not required
• Experience leveraging AI or integrating AI capabilities to automate workflows, enhance knowledge management, and/or improve product development

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As Associate Director you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) U.S. Market Transformation & Development team. In this role, you will take primary responsibility for market engagement and product adoption across the array of USGBC products in Arizona while also supporting associated markets in the mountain region. You will be responsible for driving key initiatives such as community programming, market development campaigns, stakeholder and client engagement, and volunteer management, in alignment with our mission and strategic goals. The Associate Director represents the organization in the local markets and cultivates relationships with members, volunteers, partners, and other existing and prospective stakeholders.

 

You will report to the Regional Director, Mountain and be part of a collaborative, mission-driven regional team where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes. You will work closely with teams like Marketing, Membership, and Product Development, and regularly partner with industry organizations, professionals, volunteers and other local leaders to increase membership, sponsorship and product adoption to deepen market penetration across key priority sectors.

 

Your primary market territory will be Arizona with a supporting role in other communities in the Mountain Region as directed.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Engage members, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders to increase the adoption of LEED, TRUE, Arc, and other USGBC/GBCI offerings
• Responsible to set, drive, and report on financial and performance goals tied to events, campaigns, partnerships, membership growth and product adoption
• Participate in or lead market development campaigns, ensuring increased client engagement and measurable growth in product use
• Conduct ongoing market research to identify key trends and market drivers and use those insights to accelerate demand and increase adoption of USGBC offerings.
• Serve as staff lead for the USGBC Market Leadership Advisory Board (MLAB)
• Support engagement opportunities with aligned organizations
• Recruit and manage relationships with individual and organizational members
• Develop and lead community events and programs that drive sponsorship, engagement, and visibility
• Promote USGBC and GBCI offerings through direct outreach to firms, clients, and industry leaders to establish new business opportunities
• Cultivate relationships with local partner organizations and build strategic alliances in target markets and sectors, including participating in strategic committee roles and industry events
• Develop and execute communication strategies to promote USGBC programs and initiatives through various channels, including LinkedIn, digital communications and public presentations

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• 7+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in sales, commercial real estate, and/or sustainability
• Public/Private/Non-Profit development experience and/or sales experience successfully originating new business, preferably in sustainability and/or commercial real estate
• Proven track record of successfully managing projects, staff and/or volunteers
• Experience with in-person, virtual, and hybrid event planning and execution
• Experience working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including industry and community leaders

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience required
• Advanced degree is desirable
