LEED v5 Q&A

Take the LEED Exam Before LEED v5 Launches

Earn your LEED credential under LEED v4. Once you pass your exam, your credential remains valid as long as you keep up with your continuing education requirements. You won’t need to retest when LEED v5 launches.

Upcoming LEED v5 Exam Timeline

LEED Green Associate (v5 beta): Launches April 28, 2026. Last day to take the current v4 exam: April 26, 2026.

LEED AP with Specialty (BD+C, O+M, ID+C) v5 beta: Launches June 30, 2026. Last day to take the current v4 exams: June 28, 2026.

Beta exams will only be offered in English and as standalone exams. If you want a translated version or combined exam format, you’ll need to take the v4 exams before these dates.

What the Beta Exam Means

Until the final LEED v5 exam is released later in 2026, candidates transitioning to LEED v5 will be taking a beta version of the exam. This means:

  • Exam scores will not be available immediately. Once the passing score is established, all beta test-takers will be notified of their results. USGBC anticipates scores being release in Q4 2026.

Why Take the Exam Now

  • No retesting required: Your credential remains valid with continuing education.
  • Stay current: Most active LEED projects are still under v4 or v4.1.
  • Build a strong foundation: Gain experience with the system used on most current projects.
  • Immediate Results: If receiving immediate results that you passed is important, consider taking the LEED v4 exam before the v5 beta launch.
