Empowering Sustainable Design: Toolkits for Reducing Embodied Carbon in Steel

In response to the urgent need for low-carbon building solutions, the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has launched a robust sustainability initiative in partnership with the Architecture Center to support architects. This session will introduce attendees to AISC’s Sustainability Toolkits for owners and designers, which equip architects, engineers, and developers with the strategies and resources needed to make informed, sustainable choices in structural steel design. Attendees will gain actionable knowledge to support sustainable decision-making, align with industry best practices, and reduce embodied carbon in the built environment.
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
– Describe how to effectively use the designer toolkit in projects, including the specification and design strategies.
– List available resources for developer clients for improved project collaboration and aligned sustainability goals.
– Explain three potential specification strategies designers can implement to ensure they are procuring the lowest embodied carbon steel available.
– Identify why reused structural steel reduces the embodied carbon of a steel building project when compared with traditional procurement.
This webinar can be self-reported for 1 free general-hour credit toward LEED, WELL, and/or AIA continuing education.
