What is the best process for studying?
We highly recommend using the on-demand webinars with the practice tests, which are available in our Platinum Pack or GBES CORE or PRO Subscriptions. Watch the videos and review the flashcards (you can print or flip through them online). Take the practice tests multiple times. We recommend waiting until you are consistently scoring 85% or higher before taking the real exam. Our practice tests are designed to simulate the real exam.
When will the study guide for my AP specialty be available?
We currently have Study Guides for the LEED Green Associate and the LEED AP BD+C only.
In what languages is the LEED exam offered?
LEED Green Associate: Effective April 28, 2026, the LEED Green Associate v5 beta exam will only be available in English.
LEED AP BD+C, ID+C & O+M: Effective June 30, 2026, the LEED AP with Specialty v5 beta exams will only be available in English.

How do I schedule my LEED exam?
You will need to create a USGBC account if you do not have one already. Once your account is created you can purchase your desired exam. After purchase, USGBC will provide you with an Eligibility ID in which you will use to schedule your exam at https://www.prometric.com/gbci
Exam can currently be taken Online or at your local Prometric testing center.
How much does the LEED exam cost?
The LEED Green Associate exam costs $200 for USGBC members, or $250 for non-members. The LEED AP exams each cost $250 for USGBC members, or $350 for non-members. It is possible to take the LEED Green Associate and one LEED AP exam together. This combined exam costs $400 for USGBC members, or $550 for non-members.
*If you are a veteran of the United States military, you are eligible for 100% reimbursement for any LEED exam. The Veterans Administration recommends following the following steps:
- Register for the exam and take the test.
- Fill out this form, and send the form with a copy of your receipt for the exam (available in your usgbc.org profile under “Orders”), and a signed, dated statement authorizing the release of your exam scores to the VA at the address on the form listed above.
- It will take 4-12 weeks to process.
Can I see what dates are available to take the exam ahead of time?
To be able to see the available days/times you will need to first purchase the exam through USGBC to receive your Eligibility ID. Once you have this ID you can visit the Prometric website to see times before scheduling your exam.
Do I need to have project experience before taking the LEED Green Associate exam?
No, project experience is not required to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam.
Do I have to take the LEED Green Associate exam before taking a LEED AP exam?
Yes, before you can take LEED AP exam you must take and pass the LEED Green Associate exam, or take the combined LEED Green Associate and LEED AP exams.
