Sustainability in the context of the built environment is the process of planning, designing, building, and operating building systems – building envelope, heating ventilating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, rainwater management – with a focus on responsible materials selection, resource conservation and on-site renewable energy generation while also meeting the functional and programmatic needs of the project. Under direction of the Sustainability Lead, tasks shall include:

  • Provide support for any Project Team engaged in the planning, design, construction, transition to operations, deployment and operations & maintenance of projects with sustainability and/or resiliency goals.
  • Help ensure the overall design incorporates appropriate capabilities and technologies to enable compliance with all Federal regulations regarding energy conservation and environmental protection.
  • Direct, supervise and check activities of staff engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for Conceptual Design, Schematic Design, and/or the Detailed Design Phases of a project
  • Through briefings or other informal training procedures, help educate Project Team members and the Client workforce about sustainability to help encourage a culture that desires to be conscience of resource use and the impact of facility design decisions.
  • Interface with the Client and consultants as required.
  • Provide support for meetings and forums.
  • Perform sustainability technical reviews of project documents to ensure compliance with sustainability requirements.
  • Monitor progress and generally facilitate progress and completion of sustainability related tasks.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Complete analyses using various methods to include building information modeling and simulation software.
  • Provide support for the development of sustainability strategies.
  • Knowledge of or Trainable to REVIT-compatible analyses
  • Periodic travel to project locations and other Jacobs offices should be anticipated.
  • Hybrid Remote and Office work mode should be anticipated.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Science, or BFA Interior Design from an accredited program
  • A Certification or Accreditation related to building performance, sustainability, or resilience such as Certified Commissioning Authority, Certified Energy Manager, WELL AP or in Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design AP
  • Must have demonstrated recent experience (10 years minimum) in the area of sustainable, environmental, or resilient design
  • US Citizenship
