Your Impact:

About the opportunity:

Do you want to work in a field that matters – translating sustainability vision into real delivery – with enthusiastic people who care about this goal? There is considerable flexibility within this team to tailor roles to individual interests, career aspirations and other life commitments.

We work within the Energy, Security and Technology sector to deliver solutions to defence and security clients. With MOD commitment to achieving social value through contract delivery, there is much to do to adequately respond to social and wider sustainability issues. Successful delivery needs to engage large numbers of people across a wide range of projects – estates, infrastructure, platforms, design, support services – and it needs to be done at pace.

As a member of the Defence and Security sustainability network, you will have a key role in collaborating with our established sustainability team, and working with our clients, supply chain and other internal teams to translate commitments into delivery and ensuring win-win outcomes.

This means you will need to be able to work on your own initiative and draw on the experience of those around you to deliver in a complex and challenging environment. Collaboration with the leadership team, sustainability team, other sustainability experts and those in project delivery will be necessary to improve sustainability performance for Jacobs and for our clients. You will be able to see the bigger picture and know where the detail is important.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking a lead role to develop sustainability actions to achieve desired sustainable infrastructure outcomes and BREEAM/ DREAM ratings on a range of exciting defence projects. You will deliver this yourself and lead delivery through others.
  • Seeing the bigger picture to understand client and Jacobs’ sustainability/ net zero requirements, and where the biggest opportunities for delivering more sustainable solutions and maximising sustainability value are.
  • Demonstrating leadership as part of a wider cultural evolution (behavioural change). This will include motivating interdisciplinary teams to better sustainability outcomes, great communications, nudging sustainability upskilling/ training appropriate to Jacobs and client audiences and mentoring younger and inexperienced colleagues.

The role can be delivered in a flexible manner by home and office working, and your base office could be any of our Jacobs’s offices. Travel to Bristol and to UK-based client sites will be required occasionally fully expensed.

At Jacobs, we’ll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow.  With more than 55,000 people in 40 countries, working at Jacobs offers an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.
