This 1 hour course for architects, engineers, contractors,specifiers, landscape architects, residential designers and builders, discusses naturally durable wood products, their role, and applications within the green building movement. No prerequisite knowledgerequired to take this course. The reader should be able to identify species-specific forms of historical applications for naturallydurable wood products as well as more recent applications and current trends; describe the life-cycle benefits and durability ratingsof commercially available naturally durable wood species in terms of both performance and sustainability; discuss the laws, organizations and programs promoting sustainability; and explain the importance of working with experienced and knowledgeable vendors of naturally durable wood products to develop sustainable product specifications.
