Data centers use close to 2% of all energy in the U.S. This amount of energy is the same used by approximately 6 million homes. More demands are being placed on the data center environment due to applications such as Facebook, Turbo Tax, on-line bill pay, text messaging, etc. Data storage is at an all time high and will continue to grow due to the availability of WiFi within construction designs and data plans with mobile devices. This course examines various design techniques for data centers with a focus on lowering energy consumption and the carbon footprint. The course also examines various ways to lower energy and cooling requirements without adding additional equipment.
